Jean Miles Catino collection, 1903-2000.

The Jean Miles Catino Collection contains correspondence of Mrs. Catino, her mother, Emma Bell Miles, and other family related correspondence. There is also correspondence between Mrs. Catino and her mother's biographer, Kay Baker Gaston. Other material includes her mother's journals, written between 1908 and 1918, photocopies of these journals, Emma Bell Miles writings and artwork, photographs, and restricted material concerning the failed attempts at getting the journals published in the 1970s.

Jean Miles Catino was a resident of Walden and a native of the Walden's Ridge area. She studied art in Chicago and later taught weaving at the Frye Institute here. Mrs. Catino worked as a crafts instructor with a hospital in Memphis and painted landscapes for a series of waterfowl dioramas at the Museum of Science and Natural History in Miami, and murals at the Ocean Reef Club and at Watts Bar nuclear power plant.
